Project Overview:
We recently completed this high quality block paved driveway with a charcoal border at a property in Ashford Kent. The original area was uneven and mostly unused, making parking difficult, especially during wet weather. The homeowner wanted a modern and reliable driveway that would boost kerb appeal and provide a clean and practical parking space.
The completed installation has created a smart, long lasting and low maintenance driveway that greatly enhances the front of the home.

The Process
Site Clearance and Excavation
The team began by removing turf, soil and all existing materials. The driveway area was then excavated to the correct depth, ensuring a stable and consistent foundation for the new installation.
Formation of the Sub Base
A strong MOT Type 1 hardcore base was installed and compacted in layers. This provides the essential strength needed for a driveway that will stay level and stable for many years.
Installation of the Charcoal Border
Charcoal edging blocks were fitted around the entire perimeter. This creates a defined frame and supports the block paved surface while giving the driveway a clean and attractive border.
Geo Textile Membrane and Sharp Sand
A durable geo textile membrane was laid to prevent weed growth and increase stability.
A layer of sharp sand was then added, screeded and compacted to form the perfect laying surface for the block paving.
Block Paving in Natural Grey
Natural grey paving blocks were laid in a 45 degree herringbone pattern. This layout provides excellent strength and interlock, making it ideal for a residential parking area. The contrast between the natural grey surface and the charcoal border creates a modern and stylish finish.
Final Compaction and Jointing
Kiln dried sand was brushed into all joints and the driveway was compacted to lock everything firmly in place. This final stage completes the smooth and professional finish.
