Project Overview:
The property featured a patio laid with smooth, grey porcelain or natural stone slabs. While modern, the client desired a surface with more character, texture, and a warmer, more organic feel. The aim of this project was to replace the existing patio and pathways with high-quality, dark-toned Dutch clay pavers. The key objective was to create a durable, beautiful surface that blends seamlessly with the property’s brickwork and offers a more natural, established appearance.

Process:
Removal of Existing Patio: The existing grey paving slabs were carefully lifted and removed from the site. The underlying sand bed was cleared away to expose the sub-base.
Sub-Base Inspection & Preparation: The existing sub-base was inspected to ensure it was still structurally sound and provided adequate drainage. Any necessary remediation or levelling was performed to prepare for the new surface. A new screeded layer of sharp sand was applied and compacted to create a firm and perfectly level bed for the new pavers.
Laying the Dutch Clay Pavers: The high-quality clay pavers were laid by hand in a traditional stretcher bond pattern. This pattern enhances the sense of length along the pathways. Great care was taken to maintain consistent joint widths and clean lines, especially along the edges and against the existing drainage channels.
Jointing & Finishing: A specific jointing compound or kiln-dried sand was brushed meticulously into all the joints between the pavers. The entire area was then compacted with a wacker plate (with a rubber mat to protect the paver surface) to lock the pavers into place and ensure a solid, stable finish.
