Project Overview:
Our team completed a new Indian sandstone patio in Tonbridge featuring Camel Dust paving, charcoal edging blocks and a purpose built seating area. The original patio area was made up of worn concrete slabs and the side paths were uneven and outdated. The client asked for a fresh and modern space that offered a clean layout, better usability and a dedicated seating area for relaxing in the garden.
The finished patio has completely transformed the rear of the property and now provides a bright, level and attractive outdoor living space.

The Process
Clearing and Excavation
The project began with the removal of the old patio slabs and the excavation of the entire rear area and side pathway. This created a clear and level base ready for construction.
Building the Raised Steps
A low retaining brick step was built at the rear patio doors to create a comfortable transition from the interior of the home onto the new patio surface. The step was constructed using durable bricks and finished with a smooth mortar bed to ensure a safe and solid footing.
Preparation and Sub Base
A thick MOT Type 1 hardcore foundation was installed and compacted across the full patio and pathway areas. This provides long lasting stability and prevents future movement.
Charcoal Border Installation
Charcoal edging blocks were installed around the patio, along the pathway and around the new seating area. This border frames the sandstone beautifully and gives the finished design a clear and modern outline.
Laying the Indian Sandstone Camel Dust
Indian sandstone in Camel Dust was laid throughout the patio and seating area. The paving stones were arranged in a natural random pattern to achieve a timeless and warm appearance.
The Camel Dust colour blend enhances the garden by introducing soft earthy tones that complement both the brickwork of the house and the surrounding planting.
Seating Area Installation
A dedicated square seating area was constructed in the middle of the lawn to create a separate garden feature. This area was also laid in Camel Dust sandstone and finished with a charcoal border to match the main patio.
Final Pointing and Cleanup
The entire patio was pointed and finished neatly. Once complete, the garden was cleaned and all edges were straightened to present a tidy and professional finish.

The new patio offers a bright and spacious outdoor area that is ideal for relaxing, dining and enjoying the garden. The Camel Dust sandstone brings warmth and colour, while the charcoal edging creates a clean frame that enhances the overall design.
The addition of the raised steps improves access from the home and the new seating area adds a stylish feature further into the garden.
