After a consultation is was decided that Indian sandstone would be the ideal choice for this outdoor space as it would complement the property and it is known for its durable properties. Assessment and Preparation: Before starting, a thorough site assessment was conducted to evaluate the condition of the existing patio and determine the best approach for the transformation. The old patio consisted of weathered concrete slabs that had become dull and uneven over time. We discussed the client’s vision and recommended Indian Sandstone for its natural beauty and durability. To prepare for the installation, the working area was cleared, ensuring there were no obstacles in the way. A drainage system was was also planned to prevent water pooling and maintain the patio’s long-term integrity.
Removing the Old Patio: The first physical step was removing the existing concrete slabs. Our team carefully lifted each slab to minimise disruption to the surrounding structures. We also excavated a suitable depth beneath the slabs to ensure a proper sub-base could be laid for long-term stability.
Preparing the Groundwork: With the old patio cleared, the focus was on creating a solid foundation. This step is crucial to prevent sinking or uneven surfaces over time. The ground was leveled and compacted to create a stable base. A layer of hardcore was added and compacted to enhance durability. A sharp sand and cement mix was laid to create a firm yet flexible surface for the paving stones.
Laying the Indian Sandstone: Once the foundation was in place, we began laying the new Indian sandstone slabs . Each stone was carefully positioned and set into the mortar base, ensuring an even surface. A mix of different sized slabs were used to create a natural and visually appealing pattern. As each slab was laid, we checked for level accuracy and alignment, making minor adjustments where needed to maintain a smooth and seamless finish.
Grouting and Finishing Touches: After all the slabs were securely in place, we filled the joints between the slabs with a high-quality grout to lock them in place and provide a neat, polished appearance. The surrounding brickwork was cleaned and re-pointed to complement the new patio design. A linear drainage system was installed along the edges to prevent water build-up and ensure efficient runoff. Finally, we pressure-washed the entire area to remove any dust and residue, leaving the patio pristine.
The result was a beautifully upgraded outdoor space featuring warm, natural sandstones tones that enhanced the overall look of the property. The new patio is not only visually appealing but also durable, weather-resistant and easy to maintain.
