This striking patio project in Ashford involved the installation of a beautifully crafted block paved surface using golden tones as the main body of colour, complemented by bold charcoal edges for contrast and definition. The client wanted a low maintenance outdoor area that could be used year-round while also bringing character and structure to the garden space.

Process:
Site Clearance & Excavation: We began by clearing the existing garden area, which consisted of uneven ground and overgrown patches of grass. The area was marked out and excavated to the appropriate depth to allow for a full patio build-up, ensuring long-term stability.
Sub-Base Preparation: A solid foundation was created using MOT Type 1 hardcore, which was laid and compacted in several layers using a plate compactor. This provides a durable and well-draining base, essential for preventing movement or sinking over time.
Sharp Sand Screed Layer: A sharp sand screed was then applied across the entire surface, carefully levelled to create smooth, even bed for the block paving. This stages ensures precise laying of the blocks with consistent alignment and support.
Edging Installation: Charcoal edging blocks were laid around the perimeter of the patio. These not only provide a clean, decorative frame but also help retain the shape and structure of the paved area, giving it a professional and defined finish.
Block Paving Installation: Golden-coloured blocks were laid in a 45-degree herringbone pattern within the framed area. This layout adds strength, prevents shifting under weight, and offers a visually appealing result. A small central cut-out was incorporated for planting, creating a soft natural feature within the hard landscaping.
Jointing & Final Compaction: To finish, kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints of the paving and compacted thoroughly. This locks the blocks in place, prevents weed growth, and contributes to a neat and long-lasting surface.
